FDA Biennial Registration

IMPORTANT NOTICE!  The 2014 Biennial Registration FDA renewal period starts Oct 1st, 2014 and ends December 31, 2014.  As we discussed two (2) years ago it is imperative that all FDA importers re-register their existence with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration during the Biennial Registration period.  This entire process and requirement for FDA re-registration deals with the importers of edible food products that are subject to the requirement of an FDA “prior-notice” under the FDA’s bio-terrorism act.

If the products you export to the USA are edible food products, than this re-registration requirement relates to your company.  If the FDA regulated products you ship or export to the USA do not require an FDA “prior-notice” under the bio-terrorism act than you should be able to ignore this notice.

Failure to re-register with the FDA during this time frame will cause your existing FDA Registration number to become invalid.  Again, under the Food Safety Modernization Act any importers of food products coming into the USA (good that require an FDA “prior-notice” under the Bio-Terrorism Act) must re-register their existence every two years (hence the phrase:  Biennial Registration).
